RIcapacity is an SME founded by Tanja Ninkovic with a commitment to the common good, aiming to enhance the human and technological development capacity of research infrastructures in life sciences. The organization focuses on benefiting diverse life science fields, complementing the great work of the ESFRI research infrastructures. RIcapacity mission is to promote the RI career paths and ensure that technology development is seen as integral part of the RIs, ensuring they attain excellence and can better support life sciences.
RIcapacity will do this by raising funds for technology development in cooperation with different organisations, supporting organisations to implement the training for future and current RI staff, working with the community on defining the career path and the roles in RI.
RIcapacity is dedicated to advancing the technology development capacity of facilities, fostering collaboration between engineering and life science organizations through joint programs. This approach aims to promote intersectoral permeability and talent mobility, fostering innovation in life sciences. Additionally, RIcapacity seeks to advocate for the standardization of the RI career track, recognition of the impact of RI roles, and the establishment of a standardized training path for future RI scientists.
RIcapacity is dedicated to Gender equality in operation and research. See our Gender equality plan for more information.
Founder

My name is Tanja Ninkovic, and I am a researcher, technology developer, and, for the past 12 years, an individual dedicated to the promotion and development of research infrastructures. I have had the privilege of working at EMBL, an experience that enabled me to spearhead, prepare, and execute the current ARISE program. This initiative focuses on training STEM professionals for careers in Research Infrastructures.
In my role within ARISE, I crafted the training program. However, creating an effective training program necessitates a profound understanding of the targeted profession. This involves identifying specific competencies, standard roles within the career path, and the progression of the profession. Unfortunately, clarity on these aspects was lacking for the career trajectory of RI scientists. Consequently, I embarked on a mission, collaborating with colleagues to define these essential elements.
My contribution through RIcapacity mission draws from 12 years of experience in pan-European RI activities, encompassing the management of CF operations, Infra-IA/RI programs and projects, as well as involvement with ESFRI and ERICs. Additionally to ARISE (which is a training program on postdoctoral level), I have experience in establishing and overseeing advanced training programs at doctoral levels (as a coordinator of the IMPRS-MCB, the Max Planck doctoral program).
At present, I serve as an EMBL consultant for the implementation of ARISE training and partnership activities and preparing the continuation of the ARISE funding and partnerships.
